Albendazole + Oxyclozanide Boluses are a combination anthelmintic drug used to treat and control parasitic infections due to roundworms, lungworms, tapeworms, amphistomes and liver flukes. It's also used for the control of Fascioliasis and Paramphistomiasis. It is also effective against moniezia tapeworm segments.
The combination of Albendazole and Oxyclozanide is an effective treatment for both adult and larval stages. It is an effective prophylaxis and treatment of worm infections in many different kinds of animals such as cows, goats, and sheep. Albendazole has a rapid mechanism of action (1 to 3 hours after ingestion), while oxyclozanide has a slow mechanism of action, taking as long as 24 hours after oral ingestion.
Albendazole belongs to the drug class called benzimidazole anthelmintics. It exhibits broad-spectrum action against many varieties of worms, such as roundworms, tapeworms, and flukes of domestic animals and humans. The active ingredient works by inhibiting tubulin polymerization. As an effect, the worm's ability to utilize glucose is impaired, which results in immobilization and death.
Oxyclozanide is a salicylanilide anthelmintic. It works by uncoupling oxidative phosphorylation. This drug is used primarily to control fascioliasis in ruminants.
It is important to note that Albendazole + Oxyclozanide Boluses are for veterinary purposes only. This formulation is intended to be prescribed by a veterinary doctor or animal care specialist for an animal.
