Tylosin, Doxycycline, and Colistin :
These three antibiotics have the ability to treat a wide spectrum of bacterial diseases, thanks to their pharmacological properties, which affect both respiratory and gastrointestinal infections caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Tylosin and doxycycline work synergistically to treat respiratory infections caused by bacteria sensitive to either or both antibiotics, including:
- Various strains of Mycoplasma in birds and other animals
- Haemophilus spp.
- Chlamydia spp.
- Brucella spp.
Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic. Like other macrolides, it inhibits bacterial protein synthesis in sensitive bacteria by binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome. This gives it a broad therapeutic spectrum that includes:
- Mycoplasma
- Streptococcus spp.
- Staphylococcus spp.
- Corynebacterium spp.
- And other bacteria sensitive to tylosin
Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic with high oral bioavailability when administered via drinking water. Its presence in the formulation enhances the effect of tylosin in controlling and treating respiratory infections. Doxycycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis in sensitive bacteria and has a broad spectrum against Gram-positive pathogens causing respiratory infections, as well as Gram-negative bacteria affecting the respiratory system, including Mycoplasma and Chlamydia. It is therefore used in the treatment of chlamydiosis, bacterial pneumonia, sinusitis, respiratory infections, and skin infections.
Colistin is an antibiotic belonging to the polymyxin group (also known as Polymyxin E). It is effective against most Gram-negative bacteria, particularly enteric pathogens. Colistin is used to treat gastrointestinal infections and diarrhea caused by Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Proteus, and other enteric pathogens. Its slow absorption from the intestine makes it particularly suitable for gastrointestinal infections. Colistin exerts a bactericidal effect by binding to the bacterial cell membrane, disrupting its integrity, and causing cell death.
Indications :
Telodoxyma® is indicated for the following conditions:
- Respiratory infections, including Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD), Coryza, and Mycoplasma infections of the respiratory tract
- Gastrointestinal infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria, particularly Enterobacteriaceae, including Escherichia coli, Proteus, Shigella, Salmonella, and others
- Bacterial diarrhea
- Joint infections caused by bacteria sensitive to tylosin and doxycycline, including Mycoplasma synoviae and other sensitive bacteria
- Chlamydiosis, particularly in pigeons, ornamental birds, and parrots
- Skin infections caused by bacterial pathogens
Dosage and Administration :
Administer orally via drinking water for 3–5 consecutive days at a dose of:
100 g per 200 liters of drinking water.
